The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers Seminar began with its first planning meeting in 1995 and held its first seminar in April of 1996 at Camp Burnamwood in Estill County. The seminar was then held at the Lake Cumberland Leadership Center and 4-H Camp in Jabez, Kentucky through 2019

The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers is thrilled to say we held a wonderful event this past June at our new home in Carrollton, Kentucky. A great time was had by all. Lots of laughter, weaving, and reconnecting with friends. If you were there, thanks for coming and we hope you’ll be back! If you couldn’t make it, we missed you so please consider joining us next year. The 29th annual event will be held June 17-21, 2025 at the General Butler Resort State Park in Carrollton, Kentucky. The Park is located just three miles off of Interstate 71 at Exit 44, between Louisville and Cincinnati. (Don’t let your GPS take you the back roads if you’re in a hurry!) General Butler’s conference center has 7500 sq. feet of space for our weaving pleasure. The Park offers beautiful lodge rooms, cabins, and a campground. There are also several other hotels nearby.

If staying on site, room reservations MUST be made through the General Butler Resort State Park by calling 866-462-8853 and identifying yourself as a member of the Bluegrass Area Basketmakers, group #6574. Reservation deadline for Lodge rooms is Friday, May 16, 2025 at which time all rooms not reserved in our block will be released to the general public. Reservation deadline for the cottages is also May 16, 2025 after which unreserved cottages will be release to the general public. All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card. Any reservation cancelled less than 48 hours prior to the day of arrival may be charged one night’s room fee and tax.

Over 100 Campground and RV sites are available.  Reservations for camp/RV sites must be made through Reserve America at www.kentuckystateparks.reserveamerica.com

ALL accommodations are NON-SMOKING. There will be a strict enforcement of this policy. There will be a $100.00 fee added to the room/cottage charge of any accommodation in which smoking has occurred. The fee covers the cleaning cost required to return the accommodation to a smoke free environment. Smoking is only allowed outdoors.

Due to licensing and insurance requirements, the Park is to be the sole provider of food and beverages items in all indoor and outdoor meeting/reception areas. Absolutely no outside food or drink allowed in these areas. There is a restaurant on site for all your meals. All meals will be on your own. We will be negotiating with the park for restaurant hours that will better fit with our weaving schedule. There are also fast-food places within 3 miles of the Park. A list of these restaurants will be included in the Welcome Book which you will receive when you arrive. Absolutely no cooking in the Lodge rooms or on their balconies (this includes hot plates and crock pots etc.) The cottages are equipped with a kitchen and refrigerator for your use.

All times listed are in the Eastern Time Zone.

Cost of classes are set by each individual teacher. The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers is a not-for-profit organization and is sponsored by the Bluegrass Counties Cooperative Extension Services part of the University of Kentucky.
