The Bluegrass Area Basketmakers Seminar began with its first planning meeting in 1995 and held its first seminar in April of 1996 at Camp Burnamwood in Estill County. The seminar was then held at the Lake Cumberland Leadership Center and 4-H Camp in Jabez, Kentucky through 2019

For 2021, we are happy to announce we have a new home and new dates for our annual seminar.

Please plan on joining us at Lake Cumberland Resort State Park in Jamestown, Kentucky on August 19-21, 2021.  Classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. Central Time on Thursday, August 19 and the seminar will end on Saturday, August 21.  The park has very nice rooms with balconies overlooking the lake and both one and two bedroom cottages available. They are located within 1.5 miles of the lodge.   You may want to plan on checking in on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 since classes begin on Thursday morning.  Individual reservations must be made by Sunday, July 18, 2021.  Each individual guest must make their own reservation before Sunday, July 18, 2021 by calling the Lake Cumberland Lure Lodge at 270-343-3111 and identifying yourselves as a member of the Bluegrass Area Basketmakers, group #2734.  All reservations must be guaranteed with a major credit card.  Reservations cancelled after 48 hours prior to the day of arrival may be charged one night’s room/cottage fee and tax.

ALL accommodations are NON-SMOKING.  There will be a strict enforcement of this.  There will be a $100.00 fine added to the room/cottage charge of any accommodation in which smoking has occurred.  The fine covers the cleaning costs required to return the accommodation to a smoke free environment.  Smoking is allowed on outdoor balconies of lodge rooms.

Campground and RV sites are available within 1.5 miles from the Lodge.  Reservations for camp/RV sites must be made through Reserve America at  All other room and cottage reservations must be made by calling Lure Lodge at 270-343-3111.

No food and/or drink purchased outside of the Park are allowed in the activities building where classes are held.  There is a restaurant on site for all your meals and all meals will be on your own.  The restaurant is open for breakfast beginning at 7:00 a.m.  Lunch is served from 11:30-4:00 and students will be asked to stagger their lunch break so that the restaurant is not over crowded and can serve you in a timely manner.  Dinner is served from 5:00-8:00.  All times listed are in the Central Time Zone.  The cottages are equipped with a kitchen and refrigerator but absolutely no cooking (this includes hot plates, crock pots etc.) in the Lodge Rooms or on their balconies.

The 2021 Seminar

The 2021 Seminar will be held August 19, 2021 through August 21, 2021.   The 2021 Seminar Catalog,  the 2021 Registration Form, and the Dietary Restrictions Form will be available in January 2021

The deadline for 2021 Seminar registration is May 1, 2021 - Confirmation letters will be mailed back soon afterwards.

Submissions from interested teachers for the 2022 Seminar are now open.  Please following the directions in the instruction letter below.
